The João de Barros School Grouping was formed in 2013 and is located in Corroios, in the municipality of Seixal, fruit of the grouping of the “O Rouxinol” School Grouping (2004) with the Escola Secundária João de Barros secondary school (1986) and comprises Escola Secundária João de Barros (Head School), the EB de Corroios primary school (1986), the EB D. Nuno Álvares Pereira primary school (1982), the EB José Afonso primary school (1980) and the EB de Miratejo primary school (1975).
The João de Barros School Grouping is part of a receiving area for pupils with different backgrounds, due to successive migratory inflows, boasting ethnic and cultural diversity. This challenge, which is also enriching, required (or enabled) a joint effort to find cultural and teaching initiatives that offered inclusive educational responses, most noteworthy of which are the diversity-oriented physical and cultural activities, in partnership with civil society organisations and institutions. Since before the school grouping was formed, these have included activities in the performing arts, mainly theatre, in club format, of voluntary and free enrolment, implemented since 1986 at Escola Secundária João de Barros and, since 1988, at Escola Básica de Corroios. The development of drama has allowed it to be included in the school grouping’s curriculum, offered by the schools, given its importance as a result of the successive and continued appreciation thereof in the school setting.
EGIBIDE (2012) is the result of the merger of DIOCESANAS (Arriaga, Molinuevo, Nieves Cano and Mendizorroza) (1942) together with JESÚS OBRERO (1945). The vocational training that began in Alava 82 years ago was a turning point in the social, industrial and educational development of our Alava territory.
The 5 educational centres are located in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz and have a total of 7,000 students from the ESO stage (12 years), Baccalaureate and above all Vocational Training (Basic, Intermediate, Higher and Lifelong Continuing Training).
At EGIBIDE we strive for a dynamic and lively education that responds to the social demands of the moment, training committed and competent people who are able to contribute with their work and service to creating a fairer society. Added to this social vocation is the formation of people who are aware of the social reality and therefore compassionate towards it.
The group taking part in the ARECA project is the 1st year of the Higher Level Course in SOCIAL INTEGRATION at EGIBIDE-Molinuevo. It’s a group of 25 students, who are very different from each other, but have something in common: their vocation to transform society into a fairer and more equitable model for all people, regardless of their culture, gender, age, socio-economic status or (in)ability.
